Somalia hugely appreciates Dubai municipality’s solidarity campaign

Mogadishu, 1 May 2017 – The Federal Government of Somalia welcomes the efforts of Dubai Dubai Municipality, in partnership with the Emirates Red Crescent in Dubai for launching a solidarity campaign by providing cash contributions during official working hours.

The Minister of Information H.E. Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng. Yarisow) said “The Federal Government of Somalia on behalf of Somali people hugely appreciates Dubai municipality’s solidarity campaign called “For Your Sake, Somalia” to help the people in need of support due to the severe droughts in the country in order to prevent the looming famine in Somalia.”

Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director- General of Dubai Municipality and other senior officials of the Municipality were present at the launch event on Sunday 30 April 2017. The solidarity campaign will continue until May 4, 2017. “The move is aimed at enhancing the spirit of social responsibility among the Municipality employees, to alleviate the suffering of our brothers in Somalia, to enhance the spirit of participation among the staff and to encourage them to participate in voluntary and humanitarian initiatives,” said Lootah.

Minister Eng. Yarisow said “We hugely thank the government and the people of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in particular Dubai Municipality and the UAE Red Crescent for organizing this solidarity campaign called “For Your Sake, Somalia”. Somali people will always remember those brothers and sisters that came at the right time when our people are in desperate in need of assistance. This is also shows the importance of solidarity during this time where Somalia faces a looming famine due to droughts.”
