Coming Together to Put an End to Divisiveness

Coming Together to Put an End to Divisiveness

Greetings,

The violence in Charlottesville this past weekend was a sad t reminder that there is still much work to be done to fight racism and discrimination and to defend our inclusive and diverse society. White supremacy is integral to economic injustice, to maintaining many forms of oppression.

I have stated repeatedly that I am concerned about the uptick in racial hatred, discrimination directed towards members of the LGBT community and anti-Islam rhetoric following the presidential election. But while racism is undeniably a part of America’s past, it has no place in our country’s future.

It falls to all of us, of all colors and faith, to come together and put an end to this divisiveness. We are one community, and what makes us different makes us great.

I join my colleagues, neighbors and allies in the fight against bigotry and hatred in our America. I am proud to have stood with my neighbors and other Minnesotans in setting a clear message against division.

All the best,

Council Member Abdi Warsame, Ward 6
