6 dead from waterborn Disease in Bardhere

As many as six people have died in Bardhere city from bacterial infections caused by the dirty water consumption of the Jubba River, Doctors said on Thursday.

Bardhere, Somalia (AOL) - For the last 24 hours, 6 people mostly children died from water related diseases in Bardhere. It is not new to the people of Bardhere for such an horrific deaths of water related diseases. It was Friday, March 16, 2007, when Nabadon Aden Warsame Bare and  Nabadon Abdullahi Mohamud Yusuf (Bilig-Bilg), who were famous and well respected tribal leaders of Jubbaland regions died similar diseases.

The report which is today posted on Allgedo.com and Gedonet.com again issued an alarming wake-up call to International Humanitarian Agencies, Local NGO's, Transitional Federal Government,  Governor of Gedo, District Governors (DG's), Gedo Business people, members of Sade MP's and Gedo Traditional leaders to stand up together to save the lives of people of Gedo and to stop the spreading outbreak diseases.

Dr. Mohamud Haji Farah, who works a privately owned Medical center in Bardhere said "because of unclean of the Jubba River water consumption, six people died in Bardhere in the last 24 hours. Now, people in this city and other regions of Gedo are facing high risk of water related Diseases.  Due to the lack of Medical supplies and short of Doctors in the field, children and old people are dying for Diarrhea, Cholera, malnutrition, dehydration, and other unknown diseases. "

"Even, if found the medications for waterborne diseases, it is so expensive and people cannot afford to buy it", said Dr. Farah.

In the other hand, Dr. Farah indicated that since there is no enough Doctors in the field, and no proper medications to cure this patients, there will be a higher chance of spreading this disease in to other regions of Gedo. We all know that diseases have no color and odor to identify, and no border to stop.  It can be spread any time to any where in and outside of the Gedo region.

Unfortunately, currently; there is no effective Medical teams, agencies or other individuals that works in Gedo region or want to stop this diseases.  Amazing!!!!

In addition to that, there are also other patients with the symptoms of having Diarrhea, an appear to have been infected with a bacteria that causes cholera and other related outbreak diseases saw in other parts of the Gedo region.

Panic Spreading Across Gedo

The epidemic disease is slowly spreading all across the Gedo region of Somalia as there are no Doctors or hospitals ready to treat the patients of this diseases. Already, there are signs of the the People of Gedo are panicking about the rapid spreading diseases, hunger, draughts, and the ineffectiveness of what so called TNG and International Humanitarian agencies.

"We have become panicky and don't know what to do and where to go" said Osman Abdi who took his family member patient to an empty local medical camp in Bardhere.

So far, outbreaks of water-borne disease killed 11 people in Bardhere, 8 in El-Adde, 4 in Luq and 3 in Beled Hawo. Most outbreaks are caused by the contamination of drinking water systems with no living in good sanitized facilities.

Thus; before the situation in Gedo gets into worse, and before this disease spreads into many other areas, I am urging to all of the Humanitarian agencies to do some concrete actions toward the dying people of Gedo.

Please remember "Prevention is better than cure" (WHO.)
