Somali Development Foundation (SDF) cordially invites you to the upcoming Gedo, Galgaduud & Jubba Conference on peace and development. The conference will take place in the city of Columbus, OH on May 28, 2009 through May 31, 2009. Your presence and contribution to this event will be greatly appreciated since you are an important member of our community.

The overall objective of this conference is to invite Diaspora members from Gedo, Galgaduud & Jubba including organizations, professionals, students, intellectuals, business communities, women and elders to engage a meaningful dialogue on the issues of peace building and development. This is to celebrate our shared values, and promote the essence of self-reliance and unity by committing our efforts to a well coordinated peace building and development initiatives.  In addition, it is the goal of this conference to establish Diaspora coordination network which will devise a strategy for supporting peace building and development in Gedo Galgaduud & Jubba.

 3.  Registration

Delegates and Invitees are required to register personally at the venue of the Conference, where they can pick up their badges as from 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 28 provided the Conference Organizing Committee has received their credentials.
 

 4.  Agenda of the Conference

Copies of the complete conference agenda will be given to each delegate at venue. Group meetings will start the third day of the conference. The debates will be in the form of interactive sessions, to allow the greatest number of participants possible to intervene in a lively, focused exchange. The report and conclusions of the Meeting will be adopted on Saturday, May 30 after which there will be a closing ceremony.


 5. Speeches

Given the shortness of the Conference, Agenda Rules will limit the length of speeches to a maximum of five minutes, except with the express consent of the Meeting. Speakers are therefore urged to keep their interventions brief and to the point, reducing complimentary remarks to the minimum.


 6. Working languages
 

The Working Language of the Conference will be Somali and English.

 7. Flight and hotel reservations

It is essential that flight and hotel reservations be made as early as possible. Please note that hotel reservations should be made through the Conference Organizing Committee, at the address given in above.

 8. Transport services
 

A shuttle service will be provided between the airport, the hotels and the Conference Centre.


 9. Passports and visas


Participants should ensure that they have the necessary passports and/or visas required for entry into United States of America and for any other country they may have to transit.
 


Conference Main Objectives
 

The Conference main objectives are as follows:

  1. To invite  Diaspora members from Gedo, Galgaduud & Jubba including organizations, professionals, students, intellectuals, business communities, women and elders  to engage  a meaningful dialogue on the issues of peace building  and development

  2. To develop Diaspora peace building and development coordination network that will devise a framework or strategy for supporting peace building and development in Gedo, Galgaduud & Jubba.


Conference General  Rules

 

 a)   Participation to the conference shall be open to all invited delegate.

 b)   All attendees will be received by an event organizers member to a specific seating.

 c)   Excessive movement in the middle of the session is highly discouraged.

 d)  We request that time allotted for break time/prayer should be respected.

 e)   Do not leave the meeting unless it is necessary or the presiding officer adjourns the meeting.

 f)   The Q & A sessions will be moderated by event organizers.


 

Presentations
 

There will be a few subject matter experts that will be assigned the following three -presentation topics. Each SME will be assigned a topic prior to the conference date. He/she will study assigned topic in detail and present his/her findings to the conference participants. After each presentation a brief panel discussion will follow.
