Unity and reconciliation can only occur by appealing to the best
intentions of the people and as far as truth/fairness are concerned,
the fragmented Southern warlords were defeated, even though the
majority of the parliamentarians were from the south and they should
follow the elected leader and question not.
The pieces may be falling into place for a credible dialog and
reconciliation at a national level, as the present condition of our
country calls for a major political reconstruction ,and a great
awakening for the new era.We seem to have the intellectual capital ,
but, lack the will, economic and spiritual resources to rise up to
solve our problems. The path to change is not easy , it requires by
all Somalis to examine their conscience to determine how best to
contribute to the general wellbeing of the society.
Reconciliation is to correct the historical record, so that reason
can begin to supplant emotion as the driving force behind politics &
government. Government of national unity & reconciliation
should work to eliminate the competition of tribal dominance and
promote harmony and stability, as it is equally important to make
sure that members of a particular segment of the population should
not feel that they are being governed by another, as every one ought
to be convinced that he or she has a stake in the system and must
work harder for the national rebirth.
All too frequently, leaders are mostly interested in gaining power
and keeping it, at the expense of th people. The stakes on the
ground,in Somalia were never higher, due to the prolonged civil war,
crippled or neglected economy, and a host of other national ills
demand fresh thinking and deft action. Distribution of governance
depends less on traditional aptitudes for administration and more on
a subtler, sophisticated set of analytical and managerial skills.
The President & the Prime Minister for the moment face the political
dilemma of bending backwards to accommodate, the high profile
political & tribal demands of both traditional and non-traditional
tribal chiefs and disgruntled hate elements if they want to
crystallize their vision for a united Somalia, managed under a
government of national unity and at peace with itself
If the President were to fail to bring the nation together in a
relatively very short period as he vowed to do in the recent past,
we, therefore are in for a longer, harder times to come, since it is
undoubtedly crystal clear to pick one from the pack on the other
side of the aisle, who in the foreseeable future will be in a
position to do so, and, once again, the beginning of the process of
healing the rift between the tribes, which has torn us apart for a
decade & half, will be postponed, and the disintegration of the
Somali society into small waring factions will continue unabated,
leading us into dead ends in all spheres.
