Civil war is always an economic & a social disaster for the
affected Country and therefore is very catastrophic for any
under developed nation, but the main adverse consequences of
civil war are suffered not by the active combatants, but by the
innocent civilian bystanders and most of these consequences
accrue or linger longe after the war is over. like any
other armed civil conflict, our society diverted most of it,s
resources if not all of it from productive activities into
violence. Thousands of civilians are armed to the teeth, and
none of the warmongers (warlords) is in a position to regularly
pay their fighters and are forced to subsist on whatever
resources they procure by the gun. The people of the war
battered Mogadishu and other Cities are struggling to survive
in an impoverished economy, devastated by constant conflicts and
hope that the warring factions would eventually heed the message
and opt for peace & reconciliation.
At times, there seems to be no real objective to the fighting,
as neither side holds to the ground gained for very long, as
most clashes are followed by a senseless orgies of death &
destruction, as gangs of looters go on rampage, raping and
pillaging whatever meager proberties remain. As Somalia is
slowly recovering from fourteen years of self inflicted national
tragedy, the need exists for all Somalis to work together, even
if the collective will of the fire fueling, warmongering, truth
twisting agitators keep fanning the fire. Tribal intolerance and
ethnic discrimination are the root causes for the decimation of
huge portion of our people, and as it appears , once these kinds
of intolerances take real hold in a society, it is extremely
difficult to eradicate it, but not impossible. the only way to
salvage what is left of us is for All of us to work as one
people, one nation, seek out and bring justice to those who
propagate intolerance, instigate violence & destruction as means
to settle differences. We are a people of different tribes, but
as different as our tribes may be, all of us are Somalis, we
worship the same Allah, we resemble each other, speak the same
language and face the same Qiblah. so tell me, Would it really
be rude or wrong to bluntly ask, What on earth is wrong with the
Somali race? If we, as people must transcend fourteen years of
death and destruction, rebuild our Country, our individual
lives, and bring permanent peace, tranquility, prosperity and
stability to our land, ethnic and tribal animosities must be
rejected by all of us, starting with you( reader) buddy.
Those who take advantage of our tribal differences, and
manipulate our weaknesses to stir trouble and propagate hatred
and violence are the true enemy of Somalia.
